Israel Blows Up Syrian Security Outpost in Golan

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Military Israel said to have destroyed the observation post Syria in the Golan Heights on Tuesday (1/6).

The attack was the third time in the past year in the Golan Heights, Israeli-occupied Syria. The Golan Heights is a strategic military zone that Israel annexed from Syria during the 1967 Six-Day War.

“Soldiers have destroyed a Syrian military observation post set up in Israeli territory west of the Alfa line in the Golan Heights,” Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee wrote on Twitter.

The Alfa line is a buffer zone overseen by United Nations (UN) peacekeepers to delimit Syrian and Israeli territories in the Golan Heights.

Adraee said Israeli forces attacked and blew up the Syrian security post. He said Israel’s armed forces would not “tolerate any attempt that violates the sovereignty” of his country.

So far, there have been no reports of any casualties as a result of the destruction of the security post.

Quoted AFP, Israel has launched hundreds of attacks in Syria since the start of the civil war in 2011. Most of those Israeli strikes have targeted Iranian-backed Hezbollah forces, Israel’s arch-enemy, and Syrian government forces.

Adraee said the Israeli military had launched at least 50 attacks on Syria in 2020 alone.

Hundreds of attacks were carried out to prevent Iran’s influence and presence from taking root in Syria, one of the countries directly adjacent to Israel.

In early May, Syrian state media reported that Israel had launched air strikes into the southern province of Quneitra, near the border with Israel.
