Israel is one of the first countries to begin mass vaccination of the population against Covid-19 in mid-December with a vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech. According to the vaccine supply agreement, Israel shared data on the effectiveness of the vaccine with these companies.
The vaccination campaign has helped to significantly reduce the spread of the virus, but the number of hospitalized Covid-19 patients in Israel has risen again recently. In most cases, they are infected with the most contagious type of coronavirus delta. This type is particularly prevalent in unvaccinated people and in people whose immunity to the virus has been reduced for six months after vaccination.
Israel is the first country to offer a third dose of Covid-19 to its citizens on a large scale.
To date, more than 770,000 people have received the third Covid-19 pot.
