The Beehome is a solar-powered, converted container that brings together robotics, artificial intelligence, imagery, a software platform and a mobile app to monitor and care for honeybees around the clock.
The device can house up to 24 bee colonies and automatically monitors climate and humidity conditions, detects and eliminates pests, identifies when a colony is preparing to swarm, sends alerts when human intervention is necessary, and even harvests the honey produced by bees.
“The Beehome works with 24 colonies, 12 on each side. In the center, a robotic system moves and monitors [les colonies] 24/7, using computer vision, machine learning and neural networks. He distributes food, water, medicines in case of illness or parasite, he knows if it is too hot or too cold – the robot can handle all of that ”.
Controlling and monitoring all of these conditions in real time improves yields, makes pollination more efficient and protects bee populations.
Bee populations certainly need to be protected. Due to what Safra calls a “perfect storm” of climate change, habitat loss, overuse of agricultural chemicals, parasitic mites and various pathogens, bee populations have been declining ever since. decades and the world “loses about 40% of the colonies each year.”
