Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
The team Israel attack Al-Fakhura School in northern Gaza on Saturday (18/11). Israel launched air strikes on the school run by the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA).
The school is in the Jabalia refugee camp, North Gaza and is also used as a shelter for refugees. Health Ministry officials said “at least 50 people were killed” in the attack.
“The attack on al-Fakhura School occurred at dawn,” the official said as AFP, Saturday (18/11).
With fighting continuing in the northern Gaza Strip, many Palestinians have taken refuge in UN-run schools around the Indonesian Hospital to seek shelter from relentless Israeli bombardment.
People sheltering at al-Fakhura school in Jabalia refugee camp, many of whom have health problems, thought they could seek refuge from the violence there.
It was not the first attack on schools, and similar attacks have been carried out before, also against bakeries and hospitals.
The Israeli army did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Similarly, the UN Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) was also unable to provide an immediate reaction.
Jabalia is the largest refugee camp in Gaza, where around 1.6 million people have fled due to more than six weeks of fighting between Israel and Hamas.
In early November 2023, the Hamas government said more than 200 people were killed and hundreds injured in Israeli bombardment of the Jabalia camp for three consecutive days.
Meanwhile, Israel has vowed to destroy Hamas in response to an October 7 attack that Israeli officials say killed about 1,200 people, most of them civilians in southern Israel, and took about 240 hostage.
The army’s relentless air and ground campaign has killed 12,000 people, including 5,000 children, according to the Hamas government that has ruled Gaza since 2007.
