The Israeli army raided and closed the office of the news channel Al-Jazeera in the occupied Palestinian territory of the West Bank. Al-Jazeera has published a video of the raid on its own website.
The video shows how armed and masked Israeli soldiers enter the premises of the news channel in Ramallah. According to Al-Jazeera, in the 45-day shutdown order it received, Israel accuses the network of “inciting and supporting terrorism.”
This is the second time that Israel attacks a television channel. Last May, Israeli police closed Al-Jazeera’s office in East Jerusalem and blocked access to its website.
It was the first time that Israel has closed a foreign news agency operating in the country.
– It is time to remove the voice of Hamas from our country, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in his statement at the time, according to the news agency AP.
Al-Jazeera has been diligently reporting on the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, who was killed by Israeli bullets in the Jenin refugee camp in 2022, worked for Al-Jazeera for 25 years before her death.
Al-Jazeera, which is largely funded by Qatar, said it would continue to operate in its Jordanian office.
