Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Israel and Hamas is said to have agreed to a temporary or tentative deal to free dozens of hostages in exchange for a five-day pause in fighting.
A number of officials familiar with the plan said the agreement would begin in the next few days if there were no recent obstacles.
The agreement is contained in six pages of points resulting from United States mediation. Quote Washington Postthe agreement states that all parties involved in the conflict will freeze operations for at least five days.
At the same time, 50 or more hostages would be released every 24 hours.
Apart from the release of the 50 hostages, the pause in fighting was also carried out to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid, including fuel, to Gaza via Egypt.
According to a Washington Post report, the outlines of the deal were drawn up during weeks of talks in Doha, Qatar involving Israel, the United States and Hamas, which was indirectly represented by Qatari mediators.
However, until now, it is still unclear whether Israel will agree to temporarily stop its attacks on Gaza. This can only be done if the conditions are right.
A spokesman for the Israeli Embassy in Washington said late Saturday that it would not comment on any aspect of the hostage situation.
Since Israel launched its aggression last October 7, more than 100 countries, except the US, have called for a complete and immediate ceasefire in Gaza. This call was made in line with increasing concerns about the fate of the prisoners and the large number of civilian casualties in Palestine.
According to a person familiar with the situation, this temporary pause agreement is basically difficult for Israel to accept. This is because, although there is pressure within the country demanding that Prime Minister Netanyahu return the hostages, there are also loud voices asking the government not to barter for their release.
In public statements, Israel has repeatedly emphasized that it will not give up on attacking Gaza even though it is being pressured by the international community.
On Saturday (18/11), Netanyahu enthusiastically stated that he would continue attacks on Gaza to achieve their goals.
