Jan 17, 2024 at 5:54 am

Israel and Hamas have reached an agreement on humanitarian aid to Gaza and the provision of medicine to the hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. The Qatari authorities announced this on Wednesday via state news agency QNA.

Qatar and France brokered the deal. The drugs were purchased by France and sent to Qatar. Qatari planes bring the medicines and aid to Egypt.

From there they will be taken to the Gaza border town of Rafah, where the International Red Cross will receive them and ensure further distribution. Deliveries to the Gaza Strip will take three months.

According to a diplomat who wished to remain anonymous, the agreement is the result of a visit by relatives of hostages to Qatar and discussions with the prime minister. The official does mention that this agreement is separate from broader attempts to reach a new ceasefire.
