After Emmanuel Macron clashed with Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday, the confrontation between France and Israel continued today on another level.
The French president said yesterday that “Mr. Netanyahu should not forget that his country was created by a UN decision” and the Israeli prime minister replied that “it was not the UN resolution that established the state of Israel, but the victory achieved in War of Independence”.
On Wednesday, its organizers announced that the international exhibition Euronaval, which deals with naval defense equipment, will not host Israeli stands, nor military equipment, at the request of the French government.
This exhibition, which is organized every two years, will be held this year in early November in the north of Paris.
“The French government informed Euronaval on Tuesday, October 15, of its decision to approve the participation of the Israeli delegations in the Euronaval 2024 exhibition without stands, nor the presentation of their material,” the organizing authority clarified. This decision will affect seven Israeli companies.
“Following the decision of the French government, companies and Israeli citizens who wish to do so will be admitted to the exhibition based on the aforementioned conditions,” he added.
About 500 companies and 22,000 visitors are expected to attend the 29th international exhibition to be hosted between November 4-7 at the Paris-Nor Villepinte exhibition park, the organizers recalled.
At the end of May, the participation of Israeli companies in the Eurosatory ground defense equipment exhibition was canceled due to the Israeli operation in the Gaza Strip. The presence of the Israeli companies was finally allowed by court order.
The Euronaval decision comes at a time when tensions have risen between French President Emmanuel Macron and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over military operations in Gaza and Lebanon. Paris is calling for a persistent ceasefire on both fronts and is denouncing Israeli strikes it says are “deliberate” against UN peacekeeping positions in southern Lebanon.
Gallant: “Hostile policy towards the Jewish people”
Israel’s defense minister has called French President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to ban Israeli companies from exhibiting their products at the Euronaval naval defense exhibition a “shame.”
“We will continue to defend our nation against enemies on seven different fronts and fight for our future, with or without France,” Yoav Gallad wrote in a post on Platform X.
In fact, he accused France of anti-Semitism, writing that “it has adopted and consistently implements a hostile policy towards the Jewish people”.
French President Macron’s actions are a disgrace to the French nation and the values of the free world, which he claims to uphold. The decision to discriminate against Israeli defense industries in France a second time – aids Israel’s enemies during war. This builds on the…
