“Israel Aims to Double Technological Prowess to Become AI Superpower, says Defense Ministry Director”

Defense Ministry Director General Major General Eyal Zamir said that our country hopes to double its technological prowess to become a “superpower” in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

He said this during today’s speech at the international forum on security and the fight against terror. Zamir stated that AI is the next revolution that will change the face of warfare on the battlefield.

According to him, our country plans to double its technological prowess to become an AI “superpower”, with an eye to promoting autonomous warfare and streamlining combat decision making.

“There are those who see AI as a game-changer for the nature of warfare on the battlefield,” he said.

The retired general suggested that among the steps to exploit the rapid evolution of AI are the creation of a special military robotics unit at the Ministry of Defense and a record high budget for the necessary research and development in 2023.

Zamir believes that GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) and AGI (Artifical General Intelligence) are areas of deep learning that are being addressed by civilian AI industries and have potential military applications.

“The ability of platforms to strike in swarms, or the ability for combat systems to operate independently, aggregating data and helping to make quick decisions on a larger scale than we have ever seen at all,” he said.

Zamir also attributed our country’s achievements in cyber warfare – which, according to the popular view, are associated with successful use against Iranian nuclear facilities – to the correct and timely ability to distinguish between defense, economic, national and international aspects.

He summed up that our mission is to make Israel an AI superpower and lead a limited number of world powers belonging to this club.
