Israel agrees to release 50 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for one condition

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said that Israel has agreed to include 50 Palestinian prisoners on the list of prisoners scheduled for release if more Israeli hostages are released from Gaza.

The statement came after Qatari mediators said that the four-day truce that ended Monday had been extended for another two days.

The Israeli army announced that 11 hostages who were released from Gaza on Monday arrived in Israel, and will undergo an initial medical examination before being reunited with their families.

An army statement said: “Our forces will accompany them until they reach the arms of their families,” adding, “The IDF commanders and soldiers salute and embrace the returned kidnapped persons as they return to their homes.”

Expectations of increasing public pressure on Netanyahu to conclude a comprehensive exchange deal

At dawn on Tuesday, the Israeli Prisons Authority announced the release of 33 Palestinian prisoners under a hostage exchange deal with Hamas.

On Monday, Qatar and Hamas announced the extension of the temporary truce between Israel and the movement for an additional two days.

A spokesman for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, “Within the framework of ongoing mediation, an agreement was reached to extend the humanitarian truce for an additional two days in the Gaza Strip.”

Hamas also said in a statement that it “announces the agreement with our brothers in Qatar and Egypt to extend the temporary humanitarian truce for an additional two days, under the same conditions as the previous truce.”
