In an official admission that the Israeli forces are responsible for at least one of the deaths of the hostages taken by Hamas in the October 7 attack, the Israeli armed forces advanced. According to the relevant announcement, Efrat Katz, who had been kidnapped by armed Hamas men, was killed when military helicopters opened fire on the car in which she was being held to be taken to Gaza by Hamas men.
The admission comes after an investigation has been launched into reports that some of the 1,200 Israeli and non-Israeli victims of the attack were killed by friendly fire amid the chaos of the attack, in which more than 250 people were kidnapped and taken as hostages in the Gaza Strip.
According to the relevant announcement, the evidence shows that one of the war helicopters opened fire on a vehicle in which armed men were riding, but there were also hostages.
“As a result of the fire, most of the terrorists in the vehicle were killed, and probably Euphrates Katz … was also killed,” the Israeli military said.
He added that the investigation showed that it was not possible to distinguish the hostages from the existing monitoring systems.
“The commander of the Air Force found no fault in the operation of the helicopter crew, who acted in accordance with orders in a complex war situation,” he concluded.
It is noted that the Israeli government, in its attempt to convince the international community of its right to self-defense, had presented the heavy civilian casualties of October 7th, as a result exclusively of the terrorist action of Hamas. A few months later, videos and photos that had been released, as well as reports, had shown that probably several hostages, especially in the area of the music festival, may have died from Israeli helicopter fire.
