Israel accused of shooting at Gaza relief supplies station, resulting in over 100 deaths: President Biden warns of complications in ceasefire negotiations

IsraelThe army was accused of opening fire on people at a relief supplies receiving station in Gaza in the early morning of February 29. Gaza’s health department said at least 112 people died, describing it as a massacre.USAPresident Joe Biden warned that the incident would complicate negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages.

The Guardian reported that both sides had completely different accounts of the chaos, deaths and injuries that occurred near Gaza City. The Israeli military denies firing on large numbers of starving people in Gaza, saying most died during the jostling or being run over by trucks. A spokesman said the soldiers only fired at a small group of people who were far away from the truck and posed a threat to the checkpoint, and even released aerial footage of the crowd around the truck showing crowding and collisions, but no shooting.

At an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the evening of February 29, the United States called for a “thorough investigation” into the matter and reminded Israel of the need to provide basic security guarantees for the Gaza area under its control.

Witnesses and survivors described bullets hitting people around the supply truck. Mohammed Salha, acting director of the local al-Awda hospital, said most of the dead appeared to have been shot. But another Palestinian witness said most of the dead were run over by trucks.

One of the injured, Kamel Abu Nahel, revealed that he had been eating animal feed for two months. He went to the aid distribution point on February 29, hoping to get some food, but when the truck arrived and crowds gathered, Later, Israeli soldiers opened fire on the crowd, and people scattered in search of shelter. Nahel was shot in the leg, and then was run over by a speeding truck. Because there were so many injured, some people had to be transported in donkey carts. Go to the hospital.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said it was an “ugly massacre” carried out by the Israeli occupying forces on people waiting for aid trucks.

U.S. President Joe Biden also pointed out that the bloodshed will further complicate an agreement to broker a ceasefire and release Israeli hostages before Ramadan.

The Palestinian armed group Hamas warned that the incident could jeopardize negotiations between the two parties, as the organization will not allow negotiations to become “a cover for the enemy to continue committing crimes.”

Israel’s attack on Gaza killed more than 30,000 people and injured more than 70,000 people. US Defense Secretary Austin stated on February 29 that Israel has killed more than 25,000 Palestinian women and children.
