JAKARTA – ispace, a lunar exploration company, announced that they have officially partnered with Orbit Fab, startup refueling in orbit. This partnership was announced on Monday, December 11.
Through its official release, ispace said that the collaboration between the two companies would arrange the retrieval and delivery of propellant or rocket power sources from outer space. This collaboration is expected to support moon landing missions.
From the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by ispace and Orbit Fab, each of these companies will develop propellants and fuel from space resources such as water, ice, regolith and fine soil.
“This partnership is highly focused on extending the lifespan of critical operations such as the ispace lunar lander mission by leveraging in-space resources to refuel and support the reuse of satellites in space,” said Orbit Fab CEO Daniel Faber.
In line with Daniel’s statement, ispace CEO Takeshi Hakamada said that this collaboration was built to develop long-term lunar exploration and create good economics for the mission cislunar or the inside of the moon.
Takeshi stressed that planetary expansion is one of his company’s visions. Therefore, Takeshi believes that, “Creating a supply chain to utilize space resources on the Moon and in orbit is an important step.”
Ispace recognizes that the collaboration with Orbit Fab is a very important turning point. The company can utilize the fuel depot from Orbit Fab so that their satellite revenue can be faster, but the costs incurred will remain minimal.
