ISP authorized import to Chile of the Russian antiviral drug Avifavir used successfully in critical COVID-19 patients

The Institute of Public Health (ISP), on August 11, authorized the importation by the Chilean Association of Popular Pharmacies (Achifarp) of the Russian drug Avifavir, a drug used for the treatment of critical coronavirus patients.

As reported Bio BioThis authorization will allow the importation of Avifavir, an antiviral drug that achieved that, in just four days, 60% of patients experience a drop in their viral load.

Chile would become the first country in Latin America to use the drug, which has also been used in countries such as India and China.

Avifavir is reported to reduce the number of days of hospitalization of a critical patient in the intensive care unit by 50%.
