Halo-halo Bandung’s heir, Ismail Marzuki, has spoken out about the alleged plagiarism case. They did not give up their moral rights after the chaos surrounding Hello Kuala Lumpur content.
They are still looking for the person suspected of plagiarizing the Indonesian national song.
To detikcom, Ari Juliano Gema as legal representative explained their difficulties in finding the person behind the Hello Kuala Lumpur content. Because, not much information can be found from the Hello Kuala Lumpur content.

Therefore, the search process took quite a long time even though we had received assistance from the Indonesian Embassy on duty in Malaysia.
“Currently we are continuing to monitor the distribution of the song on digital platforms, and continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur for further information,” said Ari Juliano.
The heirs and Ari Juliano Gema admitted that they would continue to thoroughly investigate this case and get their rights. They do this without a set time limit.
They also claim that the Hello Kuala Lumpur content is a form of modified work without permission.
However, the heirs still cannot prove that the content has the potential to be used for commercial purposes.
“So far the focus has been on moral rights because it is clear that there have been attempts to modify them without permission. Violations of economic rights have not been proven because we do not yet have information on whether the song was used for commercial purposes,” explained Ari Juliano Gema.
It is known that the heirs finally managed to delete or take down Hello Kuala Lumpur content on YouTube and other social media in October 2023.
