Arrived today at Doha the plane that carried the body of the Hamas leader Ismail Haniyawho was assassinated on Wednesday in Tehran, Qatar’s Al Jazeera channel reported.
The leader of the Palestinian Islamist movement, who lived in Qatar, is expected to be buried in the Gulf country tomorrow, Friday, after prayers at the Imam Mohammad bin Abdel Wahab mosque, the largest in the capital Doha.
Hamiya and one of his bodyguards were killed in an attack attributed to Israel on his residence in Tehran where he had gone to attend the inauguration of Iran’s new president.
Crowds attended his funeral in Tehran today, during a ceremony marked by mourning and calls for revenge for his death.
The death of the Hamas leader came hours after the death of a senior Lebanese Hezbollah commander, Fuad Soukrin a targeted strike against him, in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
While Israel declined to comment on the death of the Hamas leader, it confirmed it had killed Fouad Shukr, whom it held responsible for the July 27 deaths of 12 children hit by a rocket in the Israeli-held Syrian Golan Heights. Hezbollah denies any involvement.
