ISM manufacturing index at its lowest since January

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Growth in manufacturing activity in the United States slowed in June to its lowest level since January, the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) monthly survey shows Thursday.

The ISM manufacturing index came out 60.6 against 61.2 the previous month. Economists polled by Reuters on average expected a more measured decline of 61.0.

The new orders index rose 66.0 from 67.0 in May.

The employment component also deteriorated, falling back into contraction for the first time since November, to 49.9 from 50.9 in May.

The acquired price sub-index rose 92.1 in June, a record high, against 88.0 in May, while the Reuters consensus gave it down 86.5.

The IHS Markit survey also released this Thursday shows a stagnation in manufacturing activity in the United States, the final PMI index showing 62.1 in June, as in May.
