The iconic but also very dangerous Isle of Man TT motorcycle race claimed another riding life. It was fatal for Raül Torras Martinéz, who is already the 267th victim.
Spanish rider Raül Torras Martinez would have celebrated his forty-seventh birthday at the beginning of September, and motorcycle racing has been his lifelong passion. Unfortunately, however, they also became fatal for him, as it is already the 267th victim of the race on the British Isle of Man.
Martinez crashed out in a crash on Tuesday night during the first Supertwin race on the last lap. Earlier in the day, he averaged 125.47 miles per hour, setting a personal best and finishing 20th overall. The organizers also stated that he was the fastest driver of Spanish nationality to ever compete in the event.
The accident happened roughly halfway through the sixty-kilometer radius, and the details of the incident are not yet known. Somewhat chilling is one of Martinez’s latest posts on Instagram, where he shared a poem about courage in the face of death. “I am the master of my destiny,” stands in it, among other things.
“We are devastated, our thoughts are with the family of our beloved Raul,” his racing team expressed via social networks. We can only hope that this is the only casualty of this year’s demanding Isle of Man TT event. Last year alone, the complex race claimed six human lives.
