A prominent cleric is shot dead in Kabul

MADRID, 3 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The jihadist group Islamic State on Wednesday claimed responsibility for the murder of three workers of an Afghan television network in an attack carried out on Tuesday in a market located in the east of the country, according to the SITE Intelligence Group, a body specialized in making monitoring of terrorist groups.

The victims, identified as Mursal Habibi, Nazia and Saadia, were shot in the capital of Nangarhar province, Jalalabad, according to the owner of the Anikaas TV network, Zalmay Latifi, who said that both the Taliban and the Islamic State oppose them. emissions from this medium.

The event took place about three months after the shooting murder of Malala Maiuand, a presenter for the same television station. The Afghan Journalists’ Safety Committee (AJSC) has asked the government to investigate these incidents.

The country is mired in a spike in violence despite the peace talks that began in February between the government and the Taliban as a result of the historic February 2020 agreement between the United States and the insurgents.

In this context, the former president of the Ulemas Council in Kunduz province, Faiz Mohamad Fayez, was assassinated this Wednesday in the capital, Kabul, as confirmed by the Police.

Witnesses cited by the Afghan television network Ariana have pointed out that Fayez, a highly respected cleric in the country, has been shot by two unidentified people while on his way to a mosque in the city’s 17th Police District.

Kabul Police spokesman Ferdous Faramarz has pointed out that the first reports point to a murder and not to an “act of terrorism.” Fayez’s death comes about a month after that of cleric Mohamad Atif in a bomb attack in the capital.
