In an interview in Trouw on Monday, she distanced herself from certain views of Milli Görüs and of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Bouchallikht is a climate activist and is ninth on the candidate list. She then came under a magnifying glass for her work as vice-president of Femyso, an umbrella for various Islamic youth movements in Europe. This organization is associated by some experts with the extremely conservative and controversial Muslim Brotherhood. Bouchallikht says in Trouw that she herself “has never noticed any connection with the Muslim Brotherhood. I don’t want anything to do with that philosophy. ”
She also indicates that “if GroenLinks did not attend one of Milli Görüs’ meetings.” She did give a presentation there about team building, but “very emphatically as a board member of Femyso.” Bouchallikth again emphasizes that it fully endorses the norms and values of GroenLinks. “I myself stand for radical equality. I don’t care what someone’s gender, sexual orientation or color is. ”
The Islamic organizations also say it “deeply regrets that in this case Ms Bouchallikht is throwing an Islamic organization rooted in Dutch society in front of it to strengthen its position within the party.” At the same time, they hope that it will soon “contribute to the emancipation of Muslims by involving rather than excluding Muslim organizations.”
GroenLinks leader Jesse Klaver fully defends Bouchallikht’s position and praises her as “an activist who fights for equality and stands up for all groups that come under pressure. Unfortunately, this is the reality for many young Muslims in the Netherlands. They must constantly prove their loyalty and show where they stand. If you are also a woman, that burden of proof becomes even heavier. It is time for that to change ”, he writes on the site.
