Chennai were one goal ahead in the first half. Changte put Chennai ahead in the 12th minute. It was Changte’s first goal of the season. East Bengal defended as Chennai intensified their attack in the wake of the goal. In the first half, East Bengal suffered a setback when they lost the golden opportunities given to Magoma and Rafeeq. In the 36th minute, Rafeeq dribbled to the goalkeeper and could not finish.

East Bengal, who played more planned in the second half, equalized in the 59th minute through Steyman. However, Chennai woke up after the equalizer and took the lead again in the 64th minute through Rahim. Chennai’s lead lasted just four minutes. Steyman again drew level with East Bengal and the next game was to prevent both teams from conceding a goal. The match ended in a draw.
