This is how the governor of the BNB commented on the statement of Tsvetan Vassilev, which the banker made from Vienna in an open letter (see details in More on the topic).
He asked the journalists not to respond to “statements of people who will probably have to answer to other bodies and institutions soon”.
“The entire Management Board of the BNB is sitting here, ask them too. I have not said anything personally – all we have stated are official documents from auditors and conservators”, added Iskrov, commenting on the claim that he personally attacked Vasilev in front of the deputies of the budget committee in parliament earlier today.
“Everything we mentioned in the first part were conclusions from the inspection of three of the largest audit firms. Second – for indisputable documents that the conservators appointed by us have provided to the Central Bank and we have judged that this is of great importance”, he said.
According to him, it would be inadmissible for Iskrov and the deputy managers to cover up the fact that the former head of KTB withdrew hundreds of millions of levs, days before the bank was placed under special supervision. “How do you imagine 205 million to see that the sole owner cashed out and put the documents for it in a drawer,” he asked.
According to him, the state’s help is timely, because it should not be a hostage to one person: “How do you imagine we sit and pray to the majority shareholder of KTB and to “Bromak” (the company through which he owns KTB – white .ed.), who is somewhere abroad and sits and accuses us, to come and return the money?”.
According to the governor of the BNB, KTB can only be opened if the state or a large strategic investor stands behind it – with all its power and authority, which it did not have at the moment. The governor of the BNB indicated that “we have not seen anything concrete from the Oman Fund (the second largest shareholder in KTB after Vassilev’s Bromak)” and there was no way that hospitals, companies and others could keep themselves in the dark until July 21.
That is why it was decided that the Bulgarian Development Bank and the Deposit Guarantee Fund should participate in the recovery of the banking group
“We have made the people crazy, let’s have mercy on the people,” urged Iskrov, commenting on the hysteria that has been created regarding the banking system.
