Since coming to power Afghanistan, Taliban continued to be desperate by the shadows of terror ISIS and the threat of Panjshir Valley rebel forces who began to seek support from other countries.
Since the Taliban took control of the country, ISIS has frequently carried out bomb attacks. More recently, ISIS claimed responsibility for a bomb at a military hospital in Kabul that killed 19 people.
ISIS also claimed to be behind the bomb attack at Hamid Karzai Airport, Afghanistan, which at that time was filled with hundreds of people trying to flee the country. As a result of this bombing, as many as 60 civilians were killed and at least 140 people were injured.
Not only that, ISIS had attacked the Eid Gah Mosque, Kabul, on Sunday (3/10). As many as five people died as a result of the attack.
In addition, ISIS has also repeatedly targeted Afghan Shia groups in its attacks. Some time ago, this extremist group attacked Shia mosques in Kunduz and Kandahar.
Even though the Taliban claims to have controlled the ISIS threat in Afghanistan. The barrage of bombs continues to threaten the country from time to time.
Former Afghan intelligence and soldier joins ISIS
The threat of ISIS is suspected to be getting stronger because a number of former intelligence personnel and Afghan soldiers to the extremist group.
Several Afghan security officials and a number of people who knew the defectors confirmed the news to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
Afghanistan’s former spy agency, Rahmatullah Nabil, said that currently there are many ex-militaries in the outskirts who choose to join ISIS because they are being hunted by the Taliban.
“In some areas, ISIS is very attractive. If there are resistance forces, they will join the group. Currently, only ISIS has an active armed group,” said Nabil.
The former Afghan army and intelligence officer is indeed being wanted by the Taliban. They fear they will be executed by the Afghan rulers, although the Taliban have said they will not punish officials from the previous administration.
Not only that, former Afghan soldiers and intelligence officers who decided to work under ISIS have also not received their salaries for months. ISIS itself is reportedly giving some money to their ‘new members’.
