Suicide bomb happened outside Kabul Airport, Afghanistan. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack.
Reported AFP, ISIS propaganda news agency, Amaq, said the suicide bombers “were able to penetrate the security fort and were 5 meters away” from US troops. Bomber instantly detonated the belt he was wearing.
However, the statement only mentions one bomber causing an explosion. The reason, there were 2 suicide bombings that occurred outside Kabul Airport.
The head of US Military Central Command, Gen. Kenneth McKenzie, said his party would pursue the bombers.
“We’re going to chase them,” McKenzie said.
McKenzie warned of the threat of further attacks. McKenzie said those responsible for the bombing also wanted to attack dozens of planes at Kabul Airport.
Previously, suicide bombings occurred twice around the Abbey Gate of Kabul Airport. A reported 20 people were killed, including 12 US troops.
US and allied officials already have intelligence that the suicide bombers are linked to the Islamic State (ISIS) group in Afghanistan and the Islamic State-Khorasan (IS-K). The group is known to be at odds with the Taliban.
In a video uploaded by Afghan journalists showing dozens of bodies strewn around Kabul Airport. The video shows dozens of bloodied bodies in a watery ditch near the airport fence.
