Mumbai: The BCCI recently informed that players like Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer and Deepak Chahar must report to their state teams for the Ranji Trophy. Days later, Indian keeper-batsman Kishan ignored the suggestion. Despite BCCI secretary Jai Shah’s recent order to prioritize domestic cricket, the player did not make himself available for Jharkhand’s final Ranji Trophy against Rajasthan. Kishan’s action is unlikely to be ignored by the BCCI and a severe punishment is likely.
Notably, Shah’s suggestion came amid Kishan’s decision to skip the entire Ranji Trophy season and train in Baroda with new Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya. The BCCI secretary had given strict instructions to Kishan, Iyer and Chahar to represent their domestic teams in first-class cricket. Iyer is reportedly struggling with an injury to justify his absence.
Kishan was dropped from the South Africa Test series due to personal reasons. Team India head coach Rahul Dravid then emphasized that Kishan needs to showcase his skills in domestic matches if he is to be considered for the national selection. There were reports that Kishan pulled out of the South Africa series because of the selection of Jitesh Sharma. After that, the relationship between Ishaan and the management is not good. This situation has made it difficult for Ishaan to make a comeback.
