The Iserlohn Roosters from the PENNY DEL are strengthening themselves in the current season with defender Griffin Reinhart.
The 27-year-old was active for Kunlun Red Star in the KHL last season and was picked fourth by the New York Islanders in the 2012 NHL draft. Reinhart’s younger brother Sam is currently under contract with the Buffalo Sabers in the NHL, while his older brother Max completed a season with the Cologne Sharks.
Griffin Reinhart never made the final leap into the NHL despite his high draft position. The tall defensive man made 39 games in the American elite league for the Islanders and the Edmonton Oilers. There are also around 300 games in the AHL.
“Griffin should stabilize our defenses. He plays uncompromisingly and does not usually take an above-average number of penalties. The failure of Ryan O’Connor in particular showed that we need this type of player as a useful addition to our squad. We are now starting a phase with a progressively tighter schedule and we are happy that we were able to broaden our position and strengthen at the same time, ”explains Christian Hommel, sporting director of the Sauerland team.
Griffin Reinhart will be number 24 at the Seilersee and has ambitious goals with his new team: “I heard a lot of good things from my brother about the level in the DEL and I am happy about the opportunity to get started right away and the playoffs with the Roosters to reach.”
The newcomer is expected in Germany at the weekend and, subject to the results of corona tests and health checks, could be used for the first time at the away game in Wolfsburg next Thursday.
