If you look at the record of the last two seasons against the Eisbären, things could hardly look better from the Roosters’ point of view: five wins for the IEC and only one defeat. However, on the day of German unity in the BALVER ZINN Arena at home, this was a disappointing 2:8. In the last encounter, however, the Roosters left the ice as winners: Andreas Jenike scored the first shutout of the season in a 3-0 win in Berlin.
“We know that we don’t have to hide, especially against the stronger teams in the league,” said Doug Shedden, head coach of the Iserlohn Roosters. “The boys have gained the necessary self-confidence. For us, every game is a playoff game, so we won’t let up.”
It is therefore important for the Roosters to continue to confirm the upward trend. Under Shedden, the IEC scored points in six of eight games, most recently at second-placed Straubing. The gap to table 13th. could be reduced to three points, the Panthers from Augsburg are now back within striking distance.
In terms of personnel, Doug Shedden has plenty to draw from; alongside Florian Elias, defender Brandon Gormley is back in the squad. The Canadian coach left it open whether Andreas Jenike or Kevin Reich would start between the posts.
