A violent brush fire was fought all Thursday afternoon by the Isère firefighters in the hills north of La Côte-Saint-André. The disaster was declared around 1 p.m. when an agricultural machine accidentally caught fire, the flames spreading quickly to the surrounding vegetation. Fanned by the gusty southerly wind, the disaster progressed in an area of undergrowth without causing any casualties or damage to homes.
A farm was however protected by static means positioned by the emergency management. About 80 firefighters were mobilized to the disaster, which had covered about five hectares of land at 7:30 p.m. The Fire and Rescue Operations Center indicated at this time that the fire was not fixed, and that the he intervention would probably continue for a large part of the night.
In addition, the firefighters of Isère had to face during the day of Thursday eight departures of vegetation fire _in total_ on the whole of the department, and reinforced, by means of two fire tankers (CCF) their colleagues from the Hautes-Alpes involved in a major disaster in Saint-Bonnet-en-Champsaur.
A large western quarter of the department had passed this Thursday morning at risk of very severe forest fires (i.e. the fifth degree on a scale which has six), the rest of the territory being at severe risk.
Over a large part of the plain regions, temperatures approached or exceeded 40 C° this Thursday in Isère, these high temperatures being associated with a strengthening of the southerly wind.
