Rarely has the prognosis been as bad as that given by these experts regarding the 34-year-old man who will take his place this Monday in the dock. Rarely will a criminal jurisdiction have had to hear facts of such sordidness.
The week promises to be a trying one for the judges and jurors who will make up the Isère Assize Court and will have to examine the facts of which this man is accused and which will make him face life imprisonment. He is in fact accused of having had sexual relations with dogs and a pony. For mutilating or killing rats and dogs by cutting them up, scalding them, disemboweling them or decapitating them.
The man is also accused of possessing tens of thousands of child pornography images or videos. He is mainly accused of having raped his ex-partner and two of his ex-companions. And to have forced two of these three people to undergo acts of a sexual nature with dogs.
In spring 2020, a young woman confided in leaders of animal protection associations. The Isère woman had explained to the volunteers of these different structures that she had been raped by her companion and that she had witnessed abuse inflicted on dogs by this man. A man who allegedly raped dogs before killing them and also mutilated rats. The young woman then mentioned the presence, during some of these scenes, of a former companion of the man accused who had confided to investigators that he had been under the influence of the man with whom he had shared a few months of his life. life in 2016. To the point of agreeing to undergo acts of a sexual nature with dogs.
The investigation also made it possible to identify another of the accused’s ex-companions who had also reported rape.
A life punctuated by hospitalizations in psychiatric departments
The Isère Assize Court will thus give itself one week to judge this Isérois accused of rape accompanied by torture or barbaric acts, rape by spouse, sexual assault accompanied by torture or barbaric acts, sexual assault by spouse, possession of child pornography images, abuse of a sexual nature towards a domestic animal and abuse towards a domestic animal. “His only concern during this trial is to do everything to help the victims recover from the events they experienced,” announces Me Maxence Pascal-Bernard-Perrier, the accused’s lawyer.
“The trial will be particularly painful for my client who will have to relive, in words, everything she suffered. If she is in any case destroyed, the challenge this week at the Assize Court will be at least to try to understand how these sordid acts could have been made real,” says Me Alice Berthet, the lawyer for the former companion of the accused who had revealed the facts.
To try to understand, the first days of the trial of the man already convicted in 2015 for abuse committed against a domestic animal must be devoted to the examination of his personality and his life punctuated by several hospitalizations in psychiatric departments. “Psychiatric expertise will undoubtedly be the key to understanding the extremely serious acts of which the accused is accused,” believes Me Arnaud Levy-Soussan, the lawyer for one of the two former companions of the accused who will sit on the civil parties’ bench alongside lawyers from several animal defense associations, including the SPA du Dauphiné.
“Beyond the very mission of the SPA to work for the protection of animals, the association was, in this case, a witness since it was contacted by a young woman to denounce the facts which are today judged,” explains Me Pierre Donguy, the association’s lawyer.
The verdict is expected on Friday, at the end of a week which, according to Me Levy-Soussan, “promises to be particularly trying for all the protagonists in the case”.
The law prohibits us from publishing the identity of a rape victim or any information that would allow their identification. The accused being the former companion of the young woman and two men who denounce acts of rape, publishing his identity would make it possible to identify them.
