The MP for Lotbinière-Frontenac, Isabelle Lecours, reacted to the problem surrounding the lack of manpower which persists at the Thetford hospital and which led, last weekend, to a movement of patients who were in intensive care. Attending monthly meetings with the Chaudière-Appalaches Integrated Health and Social Services Center (CISSS), she says she is well aware of the fragility of the situation and that the staff is exhausted.
“I think what happened at the end of the week was that someone was absent due to sick leave. That’s fine, they have the right to it. The teams are so fragile that they have had to move patients. I know that the CISSS is taking a lot of steps to train staff and ensure there is a new workforce. I hope that the people who work at the hospital will not get discouraged because there is reinforcement arriving. Towards the end of October, we should have new nursing staff,” she said.
She was unable to comment on the recommendations made by the professionals concerned and which do not seem to be implemented or which are taking a long time to be implemented since she is not aware of their content. However, she recalled that the Ministry of Health and Social Services is making big changes to make the system more efficient. “It takes time, but we must not give up and keep hope that it will work. Everyone must also work in the same direction. »
The MP finally wanted to reassure the population since she often sees publications on social media saying that the hospital will close. “We have invested tens of millions of dollars in emergency, so we really don’t want to close the hospital. Regional health services are very important. It is essential that people keep this in mind and stop being afraid that it will close. »
