Today, Isabella Rossellini runs a farm, plays a madam in ancient Rome for television, puts on funny animal shows and looks pretty happy doing it.
Whether the Me Wall that once adorned her New York apartment still exists. Isabella Rossellini had hung portraits of herself on this wall, most of which had also been taken by very famous photographers. Rossellini laughing over the roofs of New York (Peter Lindbergh), Rossellini as a diva (Richard Avedon), Rossellini severe and black and white (Robert Mapplethorpe) … At some point a book emerged from the wall, “Looking at Me”. She was just fifty then.
So now Isabella Fiorella Elettra Giovanna Rossellini is turning seventy and still showing the world new pictures of herself. For example, Rossellini beaming happily with glasses, a hat and with a chicken (Patrice Casanova), created on her farm on Long Island, where she grows vegetables, keeps sheep and of course – chickens. Incidentally, a few years ago this also became a book, “My chickens and I”, with my own drawings.
Isabella Rossellini was also married to director Martin Scorsese
And there, too, she shows herself from different angles: she describes everyday chicken life with wonderful wit, but then conveys her concern with great seriousness: protection of biodiversity! She was last seen in front of the camera in the series “Domina”, as a madam in ancient Rome, wearing an extremely interesting tower of curls and looking fantastic as always.
It all sounds like a great career, which of course is true. Born in Italy, daughter of two film legends, actress Ingrid Bergman and director Roberto Rossellini, she was considered the most beautiful woman in the world, was definitely the highest paid model, became famous as an actress in her role as a nightclub singer in “Blue Velvet”. Director was then David Lynch, with whom she was in a relationship for five years. When they first met, he is said to have addressed her with the sentence: “You could be Ingrid Bergman’s daughter”. A friend then enlightened him: “You idiot. It’s her.” Rossellini, a mother of two who was also briefly married to director Martin Scorsese and later to model Jonathan Wiedemann, says he was love.
What Isabella Rossellini also plays: a grasshopper having sex
But back to the career – even the biggest ones usually have a kink. At Rossellini’s this came in her mid-fifties, neither for her as an actress nor as a model were there any commissions. Rossellini enrolled at New York University to study animal behavior and recently transformed her knowledge into new images of herself: she appears as a duck or ant in her “funny shows about animals” and mimes in her short film series “Green Pornos”, for example a grasshopper having sex. Incidentally, the cosmetics company Lancôme has long since brought its star back. Looking at her – Isabella Rossellini smiles or laughs in almost all of her current pictures, so she looks pretty happy.
