After 16 years at the top level, Isabell Herlovsen has stopped, she confirmed NRK, and even later on Instagram.
– With lump in the stomach. With a brain that beats faster than normal. With a tear in the corner of my eye, I write this. Thank you for me, Herlovsen writes Instagram.
Herlovsen says that she has gained a different perspective on life in the last two years.
– After Henrik was born, football has no longer been the most important thing. I have felt a lot of motivation, especially in the last year. I have not had the same enthusiasm and spark over spending so many countless hours traveling, driving and training. It takes its to be a top athlete. You have to be 100 percent to the place in what you do. If not, there is no point in holding on, you ask me, she continues.

Herlovsen is actually a Vålerenga player for the rest of the season, but according to NRK she has agreed with the club to terminate the contract.
The 32-year-old is the highest scoring player for Norway with his 67 goals in 133 games. In the autumn of 2019, she passed Marianne Pettersen’s record (66).
– When I saw that that record was so “close”, I thought that I should take it before I give up. And after that match I had a lot of adrenaline and was craving more, she says to NRK.
– But the last period has been tough, and I have thought a lot about everything I have sacrificed for football. Football has been the most important thing in my life for 16 years. Now I would rather spend my time with family and friends.
Herlovsen made his debut in the Toppserien as a 15-year-old and for the national team the following year.
The former national team player holds the record as the youngest player in a European Women’s Football Championship (16 years and 348 days) and the youngest goal scorer (16 years and 351 days).
The veteran has won both European Championship silver and European Championship bronze, and has also participated in four World Cup finals and one Olympics for Norway.
Herlovsen started his career in Begby IL in Fredrikstad and has since played for Kolbotn, Lyon, LSK Women, Jiangsu Suning and Vålerenga.
