Madame Web was definitely not the success Sony had hoped for. The blockbuster, which is part of the Sony Spider-Man Universe, was a huge flop. Actress Isabela Merced is still upset about this.
The rights to Spider-Man are (for now) with Marvel, but Sony continues to make films about well-known villains. We have also seen Venom and Morbius pass by. Not all stories were received equally well, including Madame Web.
Criticism
Not only did the blockbuster fail to convince at the box office, the figures are also very disappointing. For example, it scores a 4 on IMDb and only an 11% on Rotten Tomatoes. Lead actress Dakota Johnson already lashed out at the film and Sydney Sweeney also said that she only did her job and did not have much to do with the film.
Now Merced is also making herself heard. The actress begins: “The group chat was funny. Every actor has made a less successful film. We have seen so many messages and memes and these made me laugh quite a bit“.
Disappointment
Still, Merced mainly finds it a shame: “I won’t deny that it did leave me with a sour taste. There are people who worked very hard on this film. They may have hoped that this would be their big breakthrough“.
“I am fortunate that I have enough other possibilities and projects in the pipeline, but of course that does not apply to everyone… I find it especially annoying for everyone who has put a lot of time and energy into it and is not rewarded. I am proud of our film myself“.
