The Mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán, appointed Isabel Segovia as the new Secretary of Education of Bogotá, who for more than 20 years has worked in the educational sector, and her main task will be to make Bogotá a city where education is the axis center of development.
“All children will be able to go to school, young people to university and the quality of education will be an example at the national and regional level,” said the Mayor when he appointed the new Secretary of Education.
Isabel Segovia was Vice Minister of Education, preschool, basic and secondary education and led the creation of the first Comprehensive Early Childhood Care program in the country, as well as the implementation of free education in primary basic education.

“Mayor, thank you very much for your trust, you have my full commitment. I am happy to be able to work for the education of the girls, boys and young people of Bogotá,” said the new Secretary of Education.
The new Secretary of Education studied History and International Relations at the University of Pennsylvania and has a master’s degree in Latin American Studies from Vanderbilt University.
She has been General Manager and Manager of the Education Department of the Share Foundation, Director of Populations and Intersectoral Projects and Coordinator of the Rural Education Project of the Ministry of National Education, Consultant for the Social Sector of the World Bank and professor at the Externado University of Colombia in Public Policies in Education. She is a member of the Superior Council of the University of Los Andes, a columnist for El Espectador and founding partner of Inversiones Primera Infancia from where she promotes and develops comprehensive care programs for early childhood.
“Bogotá has taken important steps in terms of education. Consolidating, strengthening and expanding educational policies to serve children and young people, from early childhood to higher education, is key to making Bogotá an educational and university center in which young people find opportunities to develop their life project. ”added Mayor Galán.
