Isaac Dreyer, Hunting | The Isaac Dreyer image created a storm

It was on the national day itself that “Norway’s toughest” and “Farmen celebrity” winner, Isak Dreyer (28), shared a post on Instagram that made the web boil.

On his knees over a hole in the ice with a sharp weapon in his hand, Dreyer boasted unreservedly to his nearly 105,000 followers on Instagram about having killed a seal.

“Running work to get the May 17 breakfast. If you do not always choose your fate, the harness probably thinks so too “, he writes during the post.

This caused several to react, including the animal protection organization NOAH, who reported the case shortly afterwards. NOAH believed that Dreyer’s behavior was completely unacceptable and that there are clear rules for what is legal when it comes to hunting seals. Dreyer himself chose not to comment on the criticism.

On Sunday night, however, he took the magazine from his mouth and addressed the feedback in his own channels.

I think NOAH is wrong

On Sunday night, Dreyer shared a video on Instagram’s story function where he claims that the harness was not killed illegally, and believes that he has not done anything wrong.

– After a lot of “tjohei”, which was not the intention at all, I just want to make it clear that the hunt did not happen with a harpoon. The harness was shot with a rifle and an attempt is being made to retrieve it from the water, Dreyer says in the video.

Veterinarian and leader of NOAH, Siri Martinsen, is among those who have reacted strongly to the photos. She believes that Dreyer’s stunt is still animal cruelty at its worst, despite the 28-year-old’s clarification.

She has previously stated to Nettavisen about which weapons are allowed to be used when it comes to hunting seals.

In Norway, only a specific type of firearm will be used for hobby hunting of seals. It is also forbidden to use spears on harnesses in Greenland, and people who conduct trophy hunting – as this is – must also be accompanied by an approved hunting organizer, Siri Martinsen told Nettavisen earlier.

According to Martinsen, it is allowed to use hakapik, which is a notch-shaped hunting weapon used for seal hunting and hunting, but only during commercial hunting. She could also tell that the weapon Dreyer used is not a hakapik, but a spear.

The online newspaper has been in contact with Martinsen after Dreyer’s statement on Instagram, and she says the following:

– You can not pull the harness up from the water without that stick having a spike or similar on it. You thus use a tool that damages the harness, and he is still responsible for what he does in the picture, Martinsen says to Nettavisen.

Receives strong reactions

As a result of the post, Dreyer has received strong reactions on Instagram, and several have taken the floor in the comments field.

«Dit looks like the animal had to suffer a painful death for those who were to enjoy a May 17 breakfast. Far from animal welfare sound. Animals have emotions. I’m asking you questions about what you’re doing here. Disappointing!», writes a user.

«Gross animal cruelty. Man takes care of himself at the expense of the animals. Sad to see a «celebrity»like you do this », writes another.

A third user writes:

“Is this something to brag about?” Sad to see. »

The 28-year-old himself has also commented on the post himself, where he writes the following:

“Of course, the harness was shot and killed in a legal and humane way with a rifle. And retrieved from the sea with a stick “, writes Dreyer.

The online newspaper has again tried to get a comment from Isak Dreyer without success.
