Matos is 23 years old and was born in the Los Mina neighborhood of Santo Domingo. During his childhood he stood out as a baseball pitcher.
He left his country at age 16 to play basketball at Hamilton Heights Christian Academy in Chattanooga, Tennessee, from where he transferred to the University of South Florida.
His abilities paved the way for him to join the college football program, until on April 28, once the Draft was over, he was signed as an undrafted rookie by the Miami Dolphins.
Matos played as a tackle in some of the three preseason games that the Dolphins played against the Falcons, Commanders and Buccaneers, but his performances were not enough to make the 53-man roster for the season.
Despite the cut, Byron still has a chance to remain on Miami’s practice squad or find a spot elsewhere thanks to his status as an International Player Pathway player.
