KOMPAS.com- The identity of a patient at the Mental Hospital (RSJ) in Banda Aceh still leaves a question mark.
The unnamed man who was finally called Zainal Abidin, like the name of the mental hospital where he was treated, is strongly suspected of being the same person as the Adjunct Police Brigadier (Abrip) Asep.
Abrip Asep is a lost policy and is believed to have died at the time Aceh tsunami 2004.
The Polda Aceh, which has carried out matching physical characteristics, revealed that 80 percent of Asep and Zainal’s physical signs were identical.
“We have matched 80 percent of the physical characteristics mentioned by his brother in Asep who are now named Zainal Abidin,” said Head of Public Relations of the Aceh Regional Police, Kombes Pol Winardy.
The following is a sequence of events from year to year summarized by Kompas.com:
2004, twice assigned to Aceh
According to the family, Abrip Asep was assigned to Aceh twice.
He managed to return to Lampung because his father named M Yusuf died.
It was when he returned to Lampung that Asep met some of his family members. One of them is his brother-in-law named Edi (60).
“He (Asep) served twice in Aceh, the last time he met him when his father-in-law died,” said Edi.
After that meeting, in 2004 Asep was again assigned to Aceh.
However, unfortunately the tsunami occurred until Abrip Asep was not heard from again.
Dozens of years of waiting, the family believes, Asep has passed away. They have even held a funeral ceremony.
Five years after the tsunami passed, there was a dazed young man who was abandoned in Pajar Village, Darul Hikmah District, Aceh Jaya Regency.
Some residents of Pajar Village still remember the man’s early presence in their village.
According to the Head of Pajar Village, Lizar L, the condition of the young man seemed confused and traumatized. However, he never bothered the residents.
At that time, some residents thought that the man was an officer, judging from his posture.
However, his condition was not well maintained and even his hair was long and unkempt.
“The person is not annoying, his posture is good like a (police) member, white, but when he was delivered first, his hair was long and untidy,” said Lizar.
By the old village head who has now become deceased, Jauhari US, the man was escorted to a mental hospital because he felt sorry for him.
“According to the residents’ story, before the neglected young man in a state of memory loss was taken to the Banda Aceh RSJ by the late Jauhari US, the village head at that time, it is suspected that Asep was abandoned in our village for one month,” Lizar explained.
At that time, Lizar did not know that there was a young man who was escorted by the old village head, so he himself had not met Asep.
Director of RSJ Banda Aceh Makhrozal also confirmed that the man with mental disorders first set foot in RSJ about 12 years ago or in 2009.
At that time the RSJ had difficulty getting information about the origin and identity of the patient.
2014, there were people looking for their families who were lost in the tsunami
They confessed to the Brimob family and were looking for their missing child.
They also showed Lizar a photo. At that time, Lizar was in a position that he had never seen Asep in person.
“When a family came looking for their child, a Brimob member went missing after the 2014 tsunami, I did not know that the patient who was suspected of being Asep was taken to RSJ by the late Jauhari, the village head before me, but the family had shown him the photo of the child they were looking for. me at that time, “he said.
In fact, Asep’s face in the photo was recorded in Lizar’s memory.
Two years after the meeting with the family, the RSJ patient who was suspected of being Asep was returned to Pajar Village by the RSJ.
This repatriation was carried out because the man’s mental condition improved and led to recovery.
But at that time, because his identity and family were not clear and no one acknowledged him, he was again treated at the Banda Aceh Regional Hospital until now.
Lizar learned of the man who was suspected of being Asep when the RSJ was about to return Asep to Pajar Village.
He also remembered the family who was looking for his child in 2014. However, when he was about to contact, their contact had been lost.

Lizar then took the initiative to convey the information to a Brimob member in Aceh Jaya to help him find the man’s family.
“My goal is that the patient on behalf of my village can meet his family,” he said.
After the report, a police officer visited the patient at the RSJ.
Believing that the man was a friend in his class, the police made the video viral.
The video depicts members of the Aceh Regional Police who claim to be in Asep’s age. The video has been viral on social media since Wednesday (17/3/2021).
“Alhamdulillah, our Asep Letting has been found, but the patient who is suspected of being Baharaka Asep by his colleague looks confused without expression because Asep is a patient with mental disorders,” he said in the video.
Interestingly, when a member of Brimob was visited, the man suspected of being Asep showed a perfect attitude and sang when they sang the Brimob song.
Even though he was in a daze, the RSJ patient also said that the man in the Brimob uniform was his senior.

In an instant, the incident shocked the public. This is because a figure who is believed to have died dozens of years ago is now suspected of being rediscovered.
Police officers worked together to reveal the identity of the mental patient named Zainal Abidin.
The Aceh Regional Police in collaboration with the RSJ conducted a DNA test on it.
Meanwhile, the Lampung Regional Police sent Abrip Aceh’s family from Lampung to Aceh to confirm.
“It has been coordinated with the brothers and sisters of Abrip Asep, Mahyudin and Saiful,” said Head of Public Relations of the Lampung Regional Police, Kombes Zahwani Pandra Arsyad.
On the one hand, the family believes that the man is Abrip Asep, who disappeared a dozen years ago.
This is known from several identical physical features as seen in the patient’s photo.
“When we were shown the photo, we were sure it was our brother, he had a special characteristic,” said Abrip Asep’s younger brother, Burhan.
The older brother, he said, had a mole on his right ear and a stitch mark on his forehead.
“It was a wound when he was a child, fell in the bathroom,” he said.
Now, the public is still waiting for the results of DNA tests and a number of other tests.
