Is WWE planning a record match for John Cena’s farewell tour at WrestleMania 41?, Angel Garza on surgery: downtime still uncertain

John Cena has already announced that he will be involved in the transition of WWE Raw to Netflix and will make his final wrestling appearances at the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania in 2025. Instead of a single retirement match, he will go through a farewell tour, which will consist of several matches spread throughout the year and will end with his final farewell from the ring in December 2025.

There is already strong speculation in the fan community whether Cena could break the World Championship record of 16 title reigns, which he shares with Ric Flair, at WrestleMania 41 and become a 17-time World Champion.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there is intense discussion about a potential showdown between Cena and one of the current champions to break the record. “There is a lot of talk about Cena challenging one of the champions at Mania to break Flair’s record,” so Meltzer.

– Angel Garza has now spoken out about the recent surgery on his hand. He posted an update on social media:

“Just a quick update on what happened to my hand. Thank you to everyone who sent me messages wishing me a speedy recovery. I heard a crack and felt like something had exploded on my wrist. Still, I managed to carry on by bandaging it so it was bearable in the ring and in the gym. At first I thought it was just a muscle strain in the elbow, but during the examinations the physiotherapists discovered a larger problem in the wrist.

Doctors discovered that the small lump on his wrist was a ganglion. Usually this can be removed with drainage or even pressure, but in my case the ganglion had broken into three pieces surrounding major arteries, requiring surgery. Drainage would have a 70 percent chance of return, while surgery reduced the risk to 5-10 percent.

The operation took about an hour and I was under general anesthesia. Now I have to wear a cast for two weeks and not do any physical activity to avoid infections from sweat. Doctors will monitor how the artery recovers. Thank you everyone for your support, I’ll keep you posted!”

Garza last appeared on SmackDown on October 18, 2024, competing with Berto as Los Garza in a Triple Threat Tag Team Match against The Motor City Machine Guns: Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin and A-Town Down Under: Austin Theory & Grayson Waller. It remains unclear how long Garza will be out.
