Sales of classic MPVs are declining, but BMW continues to believe in this segment. Behind the doors is the second generation of the 2 Series Active Tourer.

The BMW 2 Active Tourer caused a great deal of fuss in 2014. It became the first car with front-wheel drive of the BMW brand, at the same time it was the first MPV of this manufacturer, which we do not associate much with family cars. At the same time, the brand entered the large-scale car segment at a time when they were slowly in decline. In Munich, however, they still believe in the model and are preparing it for its second generation.
His preparations have previously confirmed masked prototypes, but now the appearance of the upcoming novelty has also been revealed. Thanks to the contribution Blok’s profile on Instagram, which appears to be a shot from a catalog or promotional video for the new car. If the picture is real, we know the exact appearance of the second generation BMW 2 Series Active Tourer.
This would mean that the Munich carmaker will also use large kidneys for the compact MPV, a controversial element already used on the modernized 7 Series, X7 SUV or 4 Series. They are accompanied by low headlights, which give the whole a sporty and quite aggressive look.
On the contrary, the side silhouette is in some ways similar to the previous embodiment. Only the side glazing is sharper, with more edges than before. The mounting of the exterior mirrors has also shifted.
Significant changes are then expected inside. The BMW 2 Active Tourer is to use a new control concept in the second generation, with two screens that will be optically connected to each other, similar to, for example, the competing Mercedes B-Class.

The range of engines will probably build on the existing design, which would mean offering three-cylinder and four-cylinder, as well as a plug-in hybrid derivative. The basis will be an improved front-wheel drive platform. The Series 2 will continue to count models of a completely different concept – the MPV front wheel and the Gran Coupé 2 sedan, as well as the 2 Coupe rear wheel.
In any case, the BMW 2 Active Tourer arrives alone in the new generation. According to behind-the-scenes reports, the larger sibling, up to the seven-seater BMW 2 Gran Tourer, will not receive a replacement. After all, the carmaker is responding to the interest of customers, it sees greater business potential in the smaller Active Tourer, and so it continues.
