This March 10, 2021 will also be remembered in Murcia for being the day on which a work expected for decades by many residents of the municipality, the tunnel of the underground railway in the El Carmen station, has come into service.

At 5.50, the Cercanías train from Alicante opened this tunnel, which has already been followed by other regular Media Distancia, regional or Intercity services. In addition, the extension of the new platform beach has also been released, where some travelers showed their surprise at the novelty: “I was coming on the train and a girl asked me ‘is this Murcia?’ Yes, it is supposed to be “, a traveler told us.

The Pro Bury Platform, through its Twitter account, wrote that “it is surely the most important day in the recent history of the city of Murcia.” A March 10 in which they say that “this city begins a transformation and a part of it joins. We begin to stop being separated.”

According to ADIF, the works carried out so far have involved an investment of 105 million euros. With this action, the tunnel from the Senda de los Garres to the station area with access to a provisional track beach has been contemplated that allows the start of the conventional gauge railway service inside the new tunnel. The works will be completed with the removal of the Santiago el Mayor footbridge and the dismantling of the provisional surface access branch, as well as the subsequent redevelopment of the area.

The works of the high-speed line upon arrival in Murcia include the undergrounding of the Carmen station in its entirety, including the areas of Nonduermas-Barriomar and Senda de los Garres-El Carmen, coordinated in two phases.
