Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has accused the BJP of conspiring to hold the polls in West Bengal in eight phases. Did Bengal Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah suggest poll dates? The people of Bengal will rule Bengal. The people of Bengal will take revenge for the humiliation by voting in eight stages, ”she said.
‘Voting in South 24 Parganas is in three phases. Why? Because we are strong in that district? Is this on the advice of Modi and Shah? When the campaign is over in Assam and Tamil Nadu, you can come here and campaign. But we will defeat you, ”she said. Mamata’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee is the MP from Diamond Harbor in South 24 Parganas district. He has been targeted in BJP campaigns.
In addition to holding multi-stage elections in several districts, Mamata was also outraged by the deployment of two special police observers to the state, including Vivek Dubey. ‘He was here in 2019 as well. We know all the plays he played and the games he played, ”she said.
Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora had said that the polls were held in seven phases in the state in 2016 and 2019 and that the eight phases were not a big leap.
The first phase of polls in Bengal will be held on March 27. Phase II – April 1, Phase 3 – April 6, Phase 4 – April 10, Fifth Phase – April 17, Phase 6 – April 22, Seventh Phase – April 26, April 8 – April 29. Counting will take place on May 2. Meanwhile, the BJP welcomed the poll dates.
