The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Asen Vassilev commented on current topics related to Bulgaria in the program “Panorama” on BNT.
“We come out much stronger because we are united and speak with one voice. So far we have had to explain why war is a war for some people and not for others,” he said of the political crisis in the cabinet with the resignation of Defense Minister Stefan Янев.
When you have to act in such conditions and make such difficult decisions, you cannot sabotage those actions. Each of us has his own opinion – either you believe in something or not, and if you do not believe, it is most reasonable to resign, Vassilev said.
Asked why Todor Tagarev did not become Minister of War, he said:
Todor Tagarev is an exceptional professional and we rely very much on his expertise. He has worked in Ukraine for a long time in this capacity – as a military expert. However, according to the Deputy Prime Minister, integration and work with all structures in NATO and the EU is extremely important at the moment, and the elected Minister Dragomir Zakov comes from there.
We will count with all the processes directed against the Bulgarian interest, regardless of whether they come from Russia or from somewhere else, Vassilev is categorical. Russia’s trials were very clearly activated during the war, but they are not the only ones, he added.
Regarding the created panic with the price of fuels and the accusations against the youth organization of GERB, Vassilev explained:
Posts have reached 1 million people on Facebook. Two gas stations have raised prices, one of which has 20 rural gas stations and this thing is put on Facebook and sent to 1 million people. He has a member of the Penal Code and he carries 5 years in prison. The prices at the moment are not over BGN 3, and the post said 3.15. Prices are 2.75-2.76, as they were on Monday.
We need to prepare for the worst-case scenario – we have grain for the next two years, we have grain in the reserve for 60 days, the minister explained.
We want to buy enough so that we can spend the winter in the worst case scenario if amazing things happen, not in September wondering where to buy and at what prices.
Regarding the planned financial assistance for hoteliers providing shelter to foreigners, he said that the amount of BGN 40 is normal and there are hotels that are ready to welcome refugees at this price.
Inflation is obviously a risk, I would not say the biggest, Vassilev believes about the consequences of the war.
Asked about the provocations of the Shipka monument to the prime minister on March 3, he replied: “There is a small group that is very fierce for a variety of reasons, it is imbued with very deep propaganda. What happened to Shipka is that in fact thinking people said – there is no way to fly foreign flags on the Bulgarian national holiday “.
If someone flies a foreign flag, regardless of whose, there is no way for this person to defend the Bulgarian national interest, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed.
