Gran Turismo 7 producer Kazunori Yamauchi explains his earlier statement about the possible port of the game to PC, clarifying its current status.
Apparently, according to producer Kazunori Yamauchi, there are no official plans for a PC version of Gran Turismo 7 after all. The popular racing game franchise has always been exclusive to the PlayStation in the past, but a few major leaks and industry murmurs have kickstarted the story that something may be in the works for GT7 after all.
Not only has Sony started releasing many of its most popular games on PC, but it has already pointed to several of them well in advance as part of the infamous Nvidia GeForce Now leak, which included Returnal, Sackboy: A Big Adventure and God of War as future PC games and appearances. GT7 was also on this list, and while many initially doubted the authenticity of the leak, Sony’s subsequent release of many of these titles shocked the community.
However, it seems that Gran Turismo 7 will not be coming to PC anytime soon, according to Kazunori Yamauchi himself. The franchise producer has now gone public to clarify a recent mistranslation of one of his interviews, with some suggesting that Polyphony Digital was actively researching a PC version of the game. Yamauchi has now clarified that he was merely saying that “the chance is not 0”, but that he and his team are not actually actively working on releasing Gran Turismo 7 outside of PlayStation consoles. “There is nothing to talk about,” he concluded.
The translation error is that there may be Granturismo 7 for PC, it is sure to disappoint many racing enthusiasts who choose to play on PC. However, Yamauchi hasn’t outright denied the possibility that something like this could happen in the future, and it’s a fact that Sony seems more receptive to the platform than ever before. The obvious conclusion, then, is that while GT7 isn’t currently in the works for PC, there’s nothing to stop Sony or Polyphony Digital from working on such a version at some point.
It might be a little strange that the Gran Turismo film could be released before the game hits PC. The upcoming film is an odd, if not entirely unprecedented, choice for a racing franchise, though the August 2023 release is sure to find its audience. Details of the film are still largely unknown, but it has already been announced that it will be directed by none other than Neill Blomkamp.
Those looking to stick to the latest iteration of the PS5 game have plenty to enjoy. Gran Turismo 7’s 25th Anniversary content, for example, offers many new gameplay options and cars to chase, and more content is sure to be released in the future.
Gran Turismo 7 is out now for PS4 and PS5.
