Is a goalkeeping problem looming at Bayern?
That may sound like an adventure when Manuel Neuer is the world’s best goalkeeper in the squad, but at second glance a minor dilemma could indeed arise between the posts at Bayern. It’s not about new, but about his substitute, Bayern’s number two.
The problem: The regular number two – Alexander Nübel – wants to leave the German record champions, at least on loan. There is no shortage of attractive options for the 24-year-old.

Does Nübel go to France?
Nübel definitely wants to gain match practice in the next season. The talented goalkeeper even has a two-year loan in mind. Many traces lead to France.

Even if Bayern board member Oliver Kahn declared that he absolutely wanted to keep Nübel, there are currently many indications of Nübel’s temporary departure.
And this very scenario could become a problem. Because: A goalkeeper who logically rises to the new number two does not currently exist in Munich.
Does FC Bayern need a new number two?
Ron-Thorben Hoffmann is a regular goalkeeper for the second team of FCB. Bayern recently withdrew their option and extended his contract by one year until 2022. That is more likely due to the fact that he will not leave the club in the summer for free. It is almost impossible for the 22-year-old to become number two in the Bayern goal, VfL Wolfsburg is traded as an interested party.
With Christian Früchtl, another talented goalkeeper returns to Munich after a loan. The 21-year-old was loaned to 1. FC Nürnberg, but this trip turned out to be a flop. Früchtl’s devastating record at the club: zero minutes of play.
Since the young keeper was unable to assert himself against Christian Mathenia in Nuremberg’s goal, he should hardly be an option for the job as a substitute keeper for Neuer. After all, Bayern’s number two must have Champions League format – or at least such potential – if the Bayern captain should fail.

Does Ortega fill the gap?
So there are some indications that Bayern will have to sign a goalkeeper in the summer in order to have peace of mind on the position behind Neuer. One name is particularly interesting in this regard: Stefan Ortega.
Arminia Bielefeld’s goalkeeper proved his Bundesliga suitability this season – and more. The 28-year-old has played himself in the focus of various clubs, including abroad. To SPORT1-Information there are requests from Spain and the Premier League for the keeper, who was already under contract in Munich from 2014 to 2017: at 1860.
To SPORT1-Information, Bayern board member Oliver Kahn is an Ortega fan. There is still no request from Munich, but that could still change.
Most recently, Ortega had already stated in the SPORT1 interview that he would listen to an offer from Bayern. After all, there you experience “things that you normally do not experience elsewhere.”
