Is the Korean representative following Mr. Yeon, who said, “I am not loyal to people”?[핫이슈]

There are no permanent friendships (friends) between countries or between people. Depending on the situation each person finds themselves in and how the other person views it, they can quickly become friends or enemies. These days, if you look at YouTube, there are many videos that contain advice not to get caught up in variable human relationships, such as developing personal capabilities while networking with others. There are many videos of celebrities who seem to be busy meeting people confessing that they are tired of people, including colleagues, seniors, and juniors, and that they prefer being alone.

These days, when I look at President Yoon Seok-yeol and People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon, I get the thought that life is ultimately a ‘life on its own’ basis. In February 2020, Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol visited Han Dong-hoon, who had been demoted to the position of deputy chief of the Busan High Prosecutors’ Office, and comforted him with warm eyes, showing the best honeymoon between Yoon and Han. Afterwards, when he became president and selected Dong-Hoon Han as the first Minister of Justice of the current government, surpassing the positions of chief prosecutor and chief prosecutor, it was taken for granted that he was ‘in the same boat as Yoon and Han.’ President Yoon’s loyalty and determination to appoint young Han Dong-hoon as the youngest minister despite opposition from the opposition party, which viewed young Han Dong-hoon as precious, received applause.

However, the trust that was built between Yoon and Han while working together as prosecutors for a long time seems to be running out. Anyone who watched the long-awaited meeting between Yoon and Han on TV on the 21st would have clearly seen the cold air flowing between them. President Yoon’s face towards Representative Han was filled with a somewhat cold expression instead of a smile. There were many scenes where he looked away from CEO Han and talked to himself while looking elsewhere. At the meeting, it seemed like they were trying to show that Representative Han was not on the same level as the President by having Presidential Chief of Staff Jeong Jin-seok sit next to Representative Han. The way President Yoon spoke with both arms on the desk appeared to be teaching his subordinates.

As a result, it seems like the results of the interview ended with everyone just talking about each other. From President Yoon’s point of view, he will be very dissatisfied with the fact that a representative he raised in this administration is embarrassing the President’s Office by pouring out issues such as First Lady Kim Kun-hee’s issues. It must have been seen as a political ploy aimed at gaining the next position of power, with Representative Han going around to the outside world talking about issues that should have been brought up privately. President Yoon’s anger is understandable on a human level.

However, Yoon and Han are not in a position to get caught up in personal feelings. It is only natural that people in the highest public positions, such as the president and the leader of the ruling party, should put public interest before private life. The wave of attacks by Geo (巨野) is no longer new, but it is expected to intensify around the sentencing of Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, next month. Even ahead of the unprecedented violence of ‘impeachment of Yoon Seok-yeol and special prosecution of Kim Kun-hee’, the President’s office and the ruling party are growing more severe divisions than any previous administration, making the public anxious. Looking at the way the opposition party throws out even absurd claims in a consistent(?) manner, it seems obvious who will be the winner in the future.

What first made President Yoon a national figure was his remark that he was “not loyal to people” during a government audit in 2013 when he was the head of Yeoju District Office. Afterwards, as a confident prosecutor general during the Moon Jae-in administration, he came into conflict with the President and Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae, and also engaged in a war of words with members of the Democratic Party, which was the ruling party at the time. The people, who were dissatisfied with the Moon administration’s ‘narrative behavior’ and implementation of various policies, cheered Yoon Seok-yeol’s insistence on not being loyal to people.

Representative Han is also trying to show that he will not simply follow President Yoon for his own cause. Continuing to touch on the issue of Mrs. Kim, which may be President Yoon’s ‘disgust’, is a silent oath not to be loyal to the ‘person’ Yoon Seok-yeol.

After meeting with President Yoon, Representative Han is accelerating his ‘My Way’ actions, including meeting with friendly lawmakers and recommending a special inspector general. Representative Han, who briefly met Lee Jae-myeong, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, on the 23rd, looked much brighter than before. There are no signs of treating Representative Lee as a criminal in the past, and it is said that a meeting between the ruling and opposition parties will be held soon. The party and government are in disarray, and the President’s office’s seemingly independent actions have the potential to increase division within the party. I understand disloyalty to people, but the weight and impact of that act are very different between when I was the head of Yeoju District Office and the ruling party leader who was in charge of the government. Representative Han should also know that although conservative supporters are leaving due to Ms. Kim’s case, they are also leaving because they are tired of the conflict between Yoon and Han. Representative Han is also not free from that responsibility.

If President Yoon still believes in his ‘disloyal remarks,’ I wonder if he could embrace Representative Han’s independent actions a little. If an attempt is made to accuse a disloyal representative of a scandalous crime, the meaning of the gem of a remark made 11 years ago that helped create President Yoon will fade.
