Almost 6,000 people ran for the National Council, twice as many as in 1991. The electoral lists have almost tripled from around 200 to over 600. Is that still reasonable?
Tuesday before the elections. The phone rings again in the city administration in Winterthur. A citizen complains about the voting documents. All these lists are unreasonable, too complicated and confusing. “We are currently receiving an exceptionally large number of such calls,” says Thomas Bolleter, Head of Elections and Voting. “Many people have difficulty distinguishing between the different lists. It seems like too much.”
