The government is preparing an assistance scheme for electric cars. The assistance is expected to make electric cars more affordable and compete with conventional fueled cars. With competitive selling prices, people are expected to switch to using electric cars. There are two electric cars that can take advantage of this assistance, namely the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Wuling Air ev.

Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said the amount of subsidies for electric cars was still being calculated and would be announced on March 20, 2023. The mechanism for providing assistance would also be explained in detail. But Agus gave a leak that the amount of assistance for the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Wuling Air ev would be different.

“That’s later, around Rp. 70 million in assistance. Don’t call it the Minister of Industry to make sure. Around Rp. 70 to Rp. 80 million in government assistance for cars (Hyundai). For Wuling, assistance from the Government is Rp. 25 to Rp. 35 million, this is We are still calculating and will determine it soon,” said Agus.

The price has dropped significantly, but are these prices affordable for the Indonesian people? Previously, in the records of the Ministry of Industry, most Indonesians bought cars at Rp. 300 million. Even if you pay attention to the list of best-selling cars in Indonesia, cars with a price range of IDR 200-300 million dominate sales. Call it Honda Brio, Toyota Avanza, Mitsubishi Xpander, and several other models.

“The majority of around 70-80% of the types of vehicles purchased by the Indonesian people are in the price range of around Rp. 300 million,” said the Head of the Land Transportation Equipment Industry Sub-Directorate for the Maritime Industry, Transportation Equipment and Defense Equipment (IMATAP) Ministry of Industry Dodiet Prasetyo recently.

Meanwhile, for cars priced above, the market is there, but not as big as cars under Rp. 300 million. In the list of best-selling cars, there are several models offered at prices above IDR 300 million, such as the Kijang Innova Zenix, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, and also the Toyota Fortuner.
