“Neymar can miss the great final of the Champions”. This phrase was taken by various European media after PSG’s qualification to the title match after beating Leipzig in the semi-final.
Was the great star of the Parisian team injured? No. The information originated after the South American crack did not comply with the ‘anti-Covid’ protocol created by UEFA for the resumption of football in the midst of the pandemic.
It turns out that ‘Ney’, when the match against the Germans ended, greeted each other and exchanged his shirt with Marcel Halstenberg. Everything was broadcast live on television.
The issue is that in the protocol the call is forceful in that it is necessary to prohibit this type of situation, to avoid contagion among athletes. Moreover, the medical commission, in the report presented, requests 12 days of isolation for those who carry out this action.
In this sense, the English newspaper The Sun emphasizes that the presence of the Brazilian is in doubt next Sunday for ‘breaking’ with what was requested.
“According to reports prior to the return of the competition after the stop for COVID-19, exchanging shirts during the mini-tournament in Lisbon would result in a period of 12 days of isolation,” confirms the British media, recalling that “if a breach is reported this “may lead to disciplinary measures in accordance with the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations”.
Of course, a point in favor of Neymar -and no less important- is that the protocol specifically establishes that “Players are advised to refrain from changing their shirts”. The word ‘recommendation’ is key, and it is the weapon that PSG is surely already studying in the face of any inconvenience that is confirmed in the coming days.
Argentine lawyer Ariel Reck, specialist in sports law, joins the latter and emphasizes that “only a violation of the mandatory measures can lead to a disciplinary sanction. Not to a recommendation ”.
For now it is a rumor that is gaining strength as the hours go by. UEFA has the ‘ball’.
