A US YouTuber has tested a special hybrid car: the Bentley Flying Spur S. Although the Bentley is in the six-figure range, the American is not convinced. Because he wants a different drive.
The American Marques Brownlee has several YouTube channels. On the channel “Auto Focus“ Everything revolves around the topic of automobiles. He also regularly tests e-cars and hybrid vehicles there. Now it was the turn of the Bentley Flying Spur S in the plug-in version. For Brownlee, this is a very special hybrid. Because it offers a good mix between the luxurious Maybachs and the somewhat sportier e-cars such as the Tesla Model S.
Instead of a 4-litre V8 engine, the hybrid variant of the Bentley has a smaller 2.9-litre V6 engine and electric motors. In the Video Brownlee also reveals why he wishes the Bentley wasn’t a plug-in hybrid, but a pure electric car.
Bentley can’t do more than a Tesla Model S
The Bentley Flying Spur S is available as a combustion engine and as a plug-in hybrid. The hybrid has an 18 kWh battery with which it can drive 21 kilometers purely electrically. Even as a hybrid, the car accelerates from zero to 100 in four seconds. The Bentley starts at 211,000 euros. The variant in the video even costs around 300,000 US dollars (approx. 274,000 euros). At this price, the YouTuber would not buy a car himself. But testing is fun nonetheless.
And right from the start he asks himself: What would the fully electric Bentley Flying Spur S look like? After extensive testing, he finally draws a conclusion. With a vehicle for such a high price, one automatically expects good performance, a good driving experience and comfort. The Bentley plug-in hybrid also offers all of this. It has a lot of space and a chic design both inside and out. But: it can’t do anything that other cars, which are significantly cheaper, can’t do either. For comparison, he names the Tesla Model S from 127,990 euros and the Porsche Panamera from 117,538 euros.
In the end, Brownlee is convinced: The Bentley would be the ideal model for a purely electric car. Because the vehicle is already heavy. The heavy batteries for the all-electric drive would no longer make a big difference. At the same time, it would be quieter as an electric vehicle, offer even more space and drive even more gently. Exactly what, according to the YouTuber, someone who wants to drive such a vehicle is looking for.
