Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Hubert Aiwanger, welcomed the application of a Bavarian consortium for a hydrogen technology and innovation center in Pfeffenhausen near Landshut. The Federal Ministry of Transport has put this energy project out to tender nationwide.
Munich / Pfeffenhausen. Aiwanger: “Hydrogen is a key driver of the energy transition. We will support the Bavarian consortium as the state government in applying for the center to come to the Free State. Thanks to its hydrogen infrastructure with numerous research and application projects, Bavaria has the best prerequisites to be a pioneer in hydrogen technology. “
The Bavarian consortium around the concept of the Technology User Center Hydrogen (WTAZ) is formed by several institutions from science and industry. Members are Hynergy GmbH, TÜV SÜD AG, MR Plan GmbH, TesTneT Engineering GmbH, Ludwig-Bölkow Systemtechnik, TU Munich, FAU Erlangen, Helmholtz Institute Erlangen-Nürnberg. It is supported by 40 other companies, organizations and corporations.
The members had received several good location applications from Bavaria and identified three of them as particularly suitable for the hydrogen center. Decisive for the selection of Pfeffenhausen were the criteria of costs, implementation speed and connection to the Bavarian HyPerformer hydrogen region (Landshut, Ebersberg, Munich), which is already funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport with 20 million euros.
Thomas F. Hofmann, President of the Technical University of Munich, explained: “With the Hydrogen Technology Application Center, the Free State is creating the necessary speedboat to accelerate the transfer of hydrogen technology from research to industrial practice. The Technical University brings its specialist expertise in electrochemistry, electrical energy storage technology, fuel cells as well as plant and process technology to the competence network in order to enable the transformation of the German supplier industry to emission-free hydrogen drive and vehicle technologies. “
